One of THE best close-up tricks of all time, guaranteed to get great reactions!
Rabbits vanish, appear and multiply in the magician’s hands and then in his volunteer’s closed fist, in a cute routine full of magical moments!
Easy to do and made of top quality Goshman sponge, the best on the market. One of the most famous tricks in close-up magic, and not just for children – adults love it too!
Magician Daryl once said something along the lines of “I can do 1000 magic tricks, but they all wanna see the bunnies!” Yes, it’s THAT good! Incidentally, his routine Papa Rabbit hits the Big Time is a classic presentation for this wonderful trick.
We struggle to communicate how CUTE these little fellas are!
The Sponge Rabbits come with an excellent routine but you can also apply your own ideas and stories. You could reach out to someone’s shoulder and say “Oh you’ve got a HARE on you!” then appear to pluck off the bunny.
These are ideal for Easter and the Easter Bunny and his many cousins or brothers and sisters.
Magician’s are famed for pulling rabbits out of top hats, why not start by producing the props from an empty top hat?! Simply compressed the bunnies in your hand and hold them against the rim of the hat as you show it empty. Turn the hat over, open your hand and releases the bunnies then magically produce them and go into your routine. You could modernise the routine by using a baseball cap instead.
You could combine this with the Multiplying Sponge Carrots, even magical rabbits need to eat!
The Sponge Rabbits are ideal for many strong Gospel messages, with the adorable bunnies making the magic – and the message – all the more memorable. Here are some ideas to get you started.
All Creatures Great and Small
The animal theme is ideal for talking about how God made not just you and me, but all living things. Starting with two rabbits, you can explain the story of Noah’s Ark – how the animals went in two by two. But of course, when you get two rabbits together, what happens?! Itty bitty baby bunnies! Careful if using this routine for children, it may lead to unwanted questions about the reproductive cycle of rabbits!
You can talk about how we are born again in Christ when we choose to follow Jesus. Even though we don’t actually turn into babies, like these bunnies, it is like starting again with a clean slate. We are made new in Christ, and his blessings multiply as we choose to follow Him
The Meaning of Easter
White rabbits are ideal to represent bunnies in springtime, or even the Easter Bunny. But sometimes, people forget that Easter is about more than bunnies, chicks and chocolate eggs. At the end of the multiplying rabbit routine, you could drop all the sponges in a change bag or switch can (sold separately) and turn them into a Jesus picture silk handkerchief…the real reason for the Easter season!
In a Hole
Where do rabbits live in the wild? Down a rabbit hole? And without God, sometimes life can feel like that – like we are in the darkness, in a hole and struggling to see the bigger picture. In this routine use your hand (or a volunteer’s hand) to represent the rabbit hole. Explain that some people turn their back on God, burrowing away from Him in denial or disbelief. But if we choose to follow Him, his blessings are endless and his love multiplies.
Lost Sheep Confusion
In a children’s show, you can have lots of fun with the Parable of the Lost Sheep, bringing out the rabbits and saying their sheep. Miscalling the name will cause the kids to go wild, and you argue that they must be sheep because they are white and fluffy!
As the rabbit disappears and is ‘lost’ it not only returns but brings it’s friends and family, just like how Jesus wants to increase his flock of followers.
