The magician takes a styrofoam cup and pours some liquid into it. They drinks a little and then pierces the cup with a sharp pencil. But the surprise comes when the pencil is removed.
The audience can still see the liquid sloshing around in the cup, but there's a hole running right through it and nothing is pouring out! To finish, the liquid is poured into a cup. Amazing!
A similar effect can be achieved with slush powder but with that, you cannot show the liquid after (because it has turned to a thick gel) Dry Hole is a big improvement, and a real head-scratcher!
We recommend using cola, orange juice or food colouring in water, rather than just water in this trick, because it will be more easily seen. Water or milk against a white polystyrene cup will be almost invisible!
Who do you Tust? To add some drama, do it over someone's head! You can dress them up with a silly shower cap, big goggles and a bib (in case it goes wrong!) And this is an ideal way to demonstrate trust in God as a Gospel message.
- Uses objects that don't look like magic props - paper cup, pencil, and a drink!
- Save money and mess by not needing slush powder
