Imagine the reaction when the deck moves by itself and reveals the spectator's chosen card. What mysterious force is at work here? Is it science, magic or something spooky?
'Can you keep a secret? Good I want you to pick a card, remember it and keep to yourself.' The spectator freely selects a card, no forces here! It can even be signed. The card is put back into the middle of the deck which you placed on the table. You shake your head sadly. 'I knew this deck is going to cause me trouble.'
You ask the spectator to press down on the deck with their index finger. 'Normally a deck of cards is very well behaved. But this deck just can't keep a secret to itself. It's wants to tell everyone where your card is!' You ask the spectator to stop pressing down and right under their finger the deck cut's itself in the middle, exactly where the spectators card is! 'You can keep a secret, I can keep a secret but this deck, like some people, love to tell other's what they know!'
If you haven't seen this effect before you're in for a surprise, and so is your audience. It's an effect that people talk about long after the show has ended.
How did you do that? Very easily! This professional effect is practically self-working thanks to this cleverly gimmicked card. There's no sleight-of-hand, no electronics, springs or magnets. And with no forces, no switching and an instant reset, it comes close to being the perfect card effect.
There's nothing spooky about the Haunted Card. Present it as a demonstration of the 'power of the mind'. Turn this into a fun routine with a mischief deck of cards that won't keep still. With a suitable ghost story, this card effect is a spooky effect for Halloween.
For a church worker, the Haunted Card is an unforgettable illustration about secrets. Can we hide things from God? Perhaps from each other for a time. But Jesus promises, ' Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.' Luke 12:2
